POTHOLED
STREETS
When
I remember you now- marching proudly
in time with the rest of the troops,
I hope you know how much you mean to me,
and how special this year has been. No man is more noble
than you, and I love you with all my heart.
Sitting
next to you, our families waved farewell as we shipped
out to a new life in the Service. I looked at you and saw a
pride that comes only to those who feel deeply in their
hearts, and I knew that no lady could be more lucky than me.
When I see
you, my darling, running in the morning before
showers or in your office covered with books and papers and
a rumpled uniform, especially now, aboard ship, waving me
goodbye, I know that you are the most desirable man in the world.
In times
of loneliness and sorrow I will hold you in my soul
and kiss you across distance. I will write you with heart in
pen, take your troubles and make them my own. When you cry, I
cry, and when you hurt, I hurt. And together we will try to
navigate oceans of tears and make it through the potholed streets of life.
